Would it be possible to reduce the number of boards (particularly the ones with no threads at all), or just have major sections, or something, there's so many that my hurting brain has trouble dealing with them.

How's this for starters?

Hopefully enough spaces to keep topics running in a clearly defined area but not too many of them!

Anyone want additions (or deletions) this can be done easily - just have a think about what we need and how we might best resolve the need and it will be done.

Not having seen what the forum looked like before your Nov. 20 change, I of course don't know what it looked like before.  But, I find the current forum too complicated for me to easily know where I'm going or what I'm looking for.  I suppose with time and more use it will get easier.  As a cave dweller, I guess what I am suggesting is a simplified cave structure.  :D  The ten macro-categories (or perhaps tunnels if we want to push the cave metaphor) each have multiple sub-categorie. It would make it easier to navigate if the number of macro-categories were reduced by two or three by finding a way to combine some of them. I could of course spend more time to memorize the intricacies or use a string or bread crumbs to make sure I don't end up in some dark dead end tunnel :D

This is just a suggestion of course. But I wonder if it's just me or if anyone else finds the cave structure a bit confusing.

I have to agree with Simon, here.
Rather too many individual catergories. Would much prefere no more than ten

OTOH I can't see what the problem is - but the I do tend to view all threads which have new posts on them, so I don't need to remember which heading/subheading something is in!

I have trimmed some of the boards (especially those asked for but not seeing much action) and moved their contents into other places.

Problem is finding the right balance to make the board work but not too unwieldy. It's easy to have such catchalls in place that it becomes too difficult to place the topics properly.

I hope this helps.

Either you have trimmed a lot or beulah was counting the heading such as "community" as well as the topics inside them! There are now 15 topics + the forum stats & the login button (which are not really options that you need to worry about in terms of navigating the forum...
either way, I reckon it is fine myself...

Good stuff.

I will monitor the forum to make sure that we keep it as trim as possible insofar as boards go.

Any suggestions always welcomed - thanks of this one.

I wonder whether the various 'members only' sections could be grouped together so that they don't appear on the front page, but be signalled by a 'members only' postscript to the section title?
